Ahara

A diet determines our strength. Unhealthy food weakens our body and mind. Today, most people’s lifestyle includes a lot of junk food rather than a balanced diet. This can cause many life-threatening diseases including obesity, high blood cholesterol, diabetes, skin problems (eczema, allergy, psoriasis etc), etc. We can control our diseases to an extent by scheduling our diet into a balanced form. Ayurveda clearly explains WHAT, HOW, WHEN, HOW MUCH and WHICH TYPE of food to eat.

Ayurveda says a healthy diet is very important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. One should eat food to gain strength, provide nutrients to the body, gain mental strength, and increase energy level. Our food should include shadrasas (sweet, sour, salt, astringent, bitter, pungent), fruits and  vegetables in a balanced form.

Food can lead to a healthy as well as an unhealthy life, depending on what kind of food that we eat. Unhealthy life is caused from junk food, over-heated, over-boiled, oily, coloured, virudha ahara (incompatible food combination) etc. Virudha ahara means that food should not be taken in combinations which can even act as poison or cause any skin disorders. So we should select food with proper care. Else, the unwanted food materials will get lodged in our body and produces toxic materials or ama, which is the main causative factor of diseases. Based on diseases, food selection will vary. There will be some to neglect and some to select. For example, in skin problems we need to avoid sour, over-boiled and fried items, and milk and milk products, as these can aggravate the unhealthy condition.

One should eat only when hungry. Chew the food well and use your fingers - not your palm - while eating. If you have been consuming unhealthy foods/drinks for a long time, it’s better to discontinue the intake of such foods gradually. Eat only after the previously consumed food has digested. Timing of meals is also important. One should eat three times a day so that each meal gets proper time for proper digestion. A good meal should fill your stomach in this order: two portion of food, one portion of water, and one portion of air. Food should be consumed according to your prakriti (body constitution). The quantity of food should be according to one’s digestive capacity. Most of our health problems can be reduced by making our diet into a balanced form, which improves our energy and health status.

Oushada

Our ultimate aim is to stay alive and be healthy. For that, we need proper exercises, proper food and proper activities. To a certain extent, we can be healthy through these but in some cases, we get to depend on oushadhas.

Ayurveda mentions medicine as dravyam. Dravyam is mentioned under padachadushtaya. Padachadustaya includes bhishak, dravyam, upasthada, and rogi. Here, dravyam means herbal medicine. Dravyam should be “bahu kalpam bahu gunam sampannam yogyam oushadam”. That is, medicine should be available in different forms, should be eligible to be used in more than one disease, and should be cost-effective, easily available and unique.

Ayurveda helps cure the disease of a sick person and maintain the health of a healthy person. According to Ayurveda, there is no drug in the nature which does not pacify diseases. With more than 600 herbal formulas and 250 plant remedies, Ayurveda medicine includes a large pharmacy of treatment options.

Medicines should be prescribed only after analyzing the prakriti of the individual. That is whether he is of vata prakriti, pitta prakriti or kapha prakriti. Herbal drugs are evolved from nature, which is of panchabhoota combination. Our body is also a combination of panchamahabhootas. So, there is an interconnection between the body and medicine. Diseases and symptoms of illness are rooted in a lack of internal and external harmony. The imbalance of tridoshas (vata, pitta, kapha) leads to diseases as it disturbs the body’s equilibrium state.

Herbal medicines can be used as a whole or its various parts in different formulations such as extracted juice, kashayas, choornas, gulikas, capsules, ointments, tailas, syrups, essential oils, etc along with proper adjuvant. Herbal drugs are rich in phenols, antioxidants, tannins, etc in their pure natural forms. They are converted into various formulas by protecting their constituents in the purest form itself.

Medications should be taken in proper dose and at proper time intervals. Dosage varies according to age of the individual; combinations of medicines also vary according to the prakriti of the individual.

Dhathri Ayurveda helps you follow the proper Oushada through our Soukhyaveda approach in our services and products. For more details, please call our customer care on 1800 200 2332 / 08589 85 8590. You can also leave your contact details for us to get in touch with you.

Vihara

Vihara means activities taking place in our daily routine (dinacharya). Dinacharya includes our routine from waking up in the morning to going to sleep at night. Along with day to day activities it includes exercises, yoga, pranayama, meditation etc. According to ancient literature Ayurveda recommends to wake up at “Brahma muhurta”. The day activity begins from the respective time including internal and external cleanliness. Exercises like warm up, yoga, meditation & pranayama plays an important role in Vihara.

Exercises help in body strengthening and maintaining the health, it should not harm the health. Viharas should be in a way that it smoothens the body and mind of an individual. It should be selected according to physical and mental strength of the body.

Exercise prepares our body to get active in all sorts of karmas. It improves our immunity, which helps to fight the physical and mental ailments. If an individual does exercises beyond his strength, he may feel tired, stressed etc. exercise selected should be according to your health and body conditions. Lack of Viharas cause stiffness of body, will affect the energy level of an individual hence keep your body always active.

Through exercises, yoga, pranayama we gain lightness of our body, self-orientation, strength, mental strength, immunity, balanced doshas, proper digestive capacity and proper body metabolism. If we break in between we cannot gain the following properly in turn it harms our body and mind.

Most of our health problems are due to our sedentary life style, exercises can reduce this incidence to an extent, pranayama and meditation plays an important role here. It helps in proper contraction and extension of heart muscles. Sedentary life style can lead to obesity, hypertension, diabetes, joint stiffness and pain etc. Daily exercise reduces the unwanted fat lodged in our body, balances blood circulation, strengthens atrophied muscles, helps muscle workout. Pranayama, yoga and meditation have good role in rectify respiratory complaints, it increases the lung capacity, controls our breathing. A healthy person can do exercises in almost all seasons; those with any physical ailments should do according to a physician’s advice, methods vary according to the strength and disease. 15 to 30 minutes of daily exercise helps to keep the day fresh and mind active

Kriya

Ayurveda mentions body as union of senses, mind and soul. Nature is composed of panchamahabhootas. Human body is micro form of nature hence it is also combination of panchamahabhootas hence seasonal variations affect our health. Diseases are caused when there is an imbalance in tridoshas; this can be due to our life style including our activities, food, job, behavior, mental stress etc. These accumulates wastes and toxins in our body, such accumulation is termed as Ama. Panchakarma treatments remove this accumulated ama from our body through our natural orifices

Most of our health problems can be controlled through our daily activities, timely and proper amount of food, exercises, yoga, and pranayama, if necessary through proper medication. Some health problems need internal medications as well as external treatments, for example arthritis, neurological problems, obesity etc.

Ayurveda deals with Panchakarma and panchashodhana treatments. Panchakarma means 5 detoxification (shodhana) treatments. They are vamanam, virechanam, niruha vasthy, and nasyam and anuvasana vasthy. Panchashodhana includes vamanam, virechanam, sirovirechana, niruha vasthy and rakthamoksha. This treatment drives out the vitiated doshas from our body and also normalizes them.

Main Panchakarma treatments include a pre Panchakarma procedure and post Panchakarma procedure. Pre Panchakarma procedure includes snehana and swedana that is oleation and sudation. Through Ayurveda internal medicines we can bring the vitiated doshas to the koshta from where we can eliminate them through Panchakarma treatments. These treatments give a deep curative aspect. Pure herbal medicines are used in these treatments.

Panchakarma kriya can also be done for the preventive aspect such as prevent ageing, named as rejuvenation therapy. It with holds the age, prevent from graying, appearance of wrinkles, fading of skin etc. Panchakarma can also be done according the seasonal variations. Treatment selection varies according to the disease conditions also based on prakriti ( body constitution). Treatment is selected only after consultation with our Xpert care after analyzing the prakriti of the individual.

SOUKHYAVEDA
God has created each of us as perfect human beings, with unique wellbeing and prakruti (natural balance). However, our changing lifestyle affects our prakruti, resulting in imbalance in our body and mind. This can be corrected by realigning our lifestyle. Soukhyaveda helps in restoring our altered prakriti through scheduled Ahara (diet), Vihara (daily routines), Oushadha (medicine) and Kriya (activities).

Ayurveda believes that God has created the nature with the combination of panchamahabhootas (the five elements of nature) – prithvi (earth), ap (water), tejas (fire), vayu (air) and akasha (ether). He also created humans, who form the micro form of nature and micro combination of panchamahabhootas. That is the reason why seasonal variations affect human health.

Prakruti broadly means body constitution and it determines one’s genetical, physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. It is basically classified into two - deha prakruti (physical balance) and manasa prakruti (mental balance). Deha prakruti is vata, pitta and kapha, which are the bodily factors. Manasa prakruti means satwa, rajas and tamas, which are the mental factors. These categorize the population into subgroups based on physical appearance, habits; diets, daily activities, etc. Normal prakruti will balance these factors, whereas any imbalance in these will cause vikriti (illness). Determining the prakruti helps in proper diagnosis of the illness as well as in curative and preventive aspects.

According to Ayurveda, an individual is born with a prakruti, passed on from his / her mother, and that is genetically determined. At birth, prakruti is influenced by the following factors: environment, time of birth, place of birth, religious customs, race, food habits, panchamahabhootas combination, stages of life, etc. This is determined through the vata-pitta-kapha combination present in our body. Based on this tridoshas theory, no two persons are the same. Even identical twins are not similar just like their finger prints are different. One falls ill when the tridoshas - vata, pitta and kapha - become imbalanced. We can cure this by balancing them by prakritisthapana treatment through proper Ahara, Vihara, Oushadha and Kriya.

Soukhyaveda is all about managing the self for a better harmony with one’s BODY, MIND & SOUL. It may be termed ‘Prakrutic Balance’. It is to look at the possibility of achieving the state of ‘healing’ more than a cure at the physiological and psychological levels.
